Celebrating American Independence New Orleans Style!
Last week U.S. Ambassador Ross Wilson hosted a unique celebration to commemorate the 232nd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Coolbone, a New Orleans jazz band, dazzled guests with homegrown American sounds and fun. U.S. Hockey star Buzz Schneider, who scored the first goal in the memorable U.S. win over the then-Soviet Union in the1980 Winter Olympics, joined the Ambassador for the celebration. Ambassador Wilson and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan issued messages of our nations’ common commitment to democracy. Ambassador Wilson referred to the Declaration of Independence when he noted, “As Americans, Turks and other free peoples around the world struggle with day-to-day issues and the sometimes difficult challenges of making democracy work, these words remain an inspiration. As our great nations stay firm with these values and a common commitment to defend our way of life, Turkish-American friendship and alliance will be strong, and we can be confident about our future together."
