ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS

Grants to the 2007 TESOL Conference in Seattle, WA  U.S.A.  (www.tesol.org)

Guidelines for applying for an English Language Office (ELO) travel grant to the annual Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) convention in the United States.

Pre-conditions:

1. The applicant MUST be accepted as a presenter at the TESOL convention.  (Notification of acceptance by TESOL takes place by November 2006.) The presenter’s name must appear on the final convention schedule. Eligible presentations include presenting as part of a panel or colloquium, giving a workshop or presenting a paper.  Presenting a poster session nor serving as an interest section or other committee member is not eligible for an ELO travel grant.

2. The applicant must be a Turkish citizen. 

Note: Only one presenter per session/presentation will be awarded an ELO travel grant.  Even if you are accepted as a speaker/presenter to the TESOL convention, there is no guarantee you will be awarded an ELO travel grant to the TESOL convention.  Travel grants consist only or airfare from Turkey to Seattle, Washington. All other expenses (convention registration fee, hotel costs, visa application fees, etc.) remain the responsibility of the applicant.

Application Process for ELO TESOL convention travel grant

Send the following to snarskime@state.gov AND yamana@state.gov  by December 15, 2006.

1. Name of your presentation (and a copy of your acceptance letter/email)
2. Abstract of your presentation and name(s) of co-presenter(s)
3. Your personal information:
full name, birth place, birth date and year (mm/dd/year), type of passport,
expiration date, mailing address, email address, telephone number(s), institution,
title (student, research assistant, professor etc.).
An updated CV is optional, but  helpful.


Notification: The ELO office will review applications received and inform candidates of the status of their applications by January 15, 2007.

IMPORTANT: Grantees are REQUIRED to submit a report on their activities during the TESOL convention and a summary of how they and their institutions of affiliation have benefited from the experience. Reports are due by May 1, 2007. Please send to snarskime@state.gov AND yamana@state.gov
