Anadolu University: The Junior Fellow is assigned to the ELT department of Open University, which is administered by Anadolu University in Eskisehir. Open University is one of the largest universities in the world with more than 760,000 students (according to the University web page). Open University has the largest B.A. in ELT in the country with a planned graduation class of 2,500 per year. The teacher trainees take face-to-face English lessons and some education courses in 18 different sites around the country, including Anadolu University. Upon graduation, all of the teacher trainees will find jobs, mostly in secondary schools. The ETF will revise tests given to students in years 1-4 of the Open University program. The expectation is that all graduates of the department will become English teachers and that their English will improve during the four-year B.A. program.
Ataturk University: The Junior Fellow is assigned to the English department of Ataturk University. Founded in 1957, Ataturk University has 38,000 students and more than 2,300 teachers. The English department has 450 students and 20 staff members. Ataturk University has some of the leading American studies scholars in Turkey. The English department has organized national conferences on English teaching and staff members are regular participants in academic programs. Most of the graduates of the English department will become English teachers and enter the department with a basic level of English. The expectation is that all graduates of the department will become English teachers and that their English will improve during the four-year B.A. program.
Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University: The Junior Fellow is assigned to the ELT department of Canakale Onsekiz Mart University, located on the Dardanelles (the strait joining the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean Sea), near the ancient city of Troy. The University, which has almost 13,000 students and 600 teachers, was founded in 1992. The ELT department has approximately 450 students and 15 teachers. Students are highly motivated and well versed in ELT methodology. They enter the department after having graduated mostly from teacher training high schools. The expectation is that all graduates of the department will become English teachers and that their English will improve during the four-year B.A. program.

Gaziantep University: The Junior Fellow will teach in the English department of Gaziantep University, one of the leading universities in eastern Turkey. Gaziantep University was founded in 1973 and has a current student population of 10,500. There are 165 students and six staff members in the English department. Most of the graduates of the English department will become English teachers and enter the department with a basic level of English. The expectation is that most graduates of the department will become English teachers and that their English will improve during the four-year B.A. program. Most students take a full year of intensive English before beginning their content classes. The ETF will teach subjects such as conversation, grammar, and advanced writing to first- and second-year students, using the assigned textbooks.
Military Academy: The Fellow in the Military Academy in Ankara teaches speaking to future army officers. The cadets are carefully selected through entrance exams and are eager to improve their English. The focus of the Fellow work is on improving speaking and listening skills. The Fellow also develops modules and teaches lessons in areas ranging from civic education to rule of law.
Ministry of Education: The Senior Fellow works in the Ministry of Education to help write books for young learners. The Fellow also works on teacher training and curriculum development as requested. At Middle East Technical University, the Fellow will work with the textbook and curriculum teams on curriculum and materials development.
Trakya University: The Junior Fellow is assigned to the ELT department of Trakya University, located in Edirne, which is near the Greek border. Trakya University was founded in July 1982. There are almost 26,000 students and approximately 1,500 teachers in the university. The ELT department has 200 students and 15 teachers. The students enter the department after having graduated from teacher training high schools which focus on English. The expectation is that all graduates of the department will become English teachers.
Uludag University: The Junior Fellow is assigned to the ELT department of Uludag University, located in Bursa, the old capital of the Ottoman Empire. Founded in 1975, Uludag University is one of the faster growing universities in Turkey. Presently there are almost 37,000 students and more than 2,000 teachers. Uludag University has a large and dynamic ELT department with 990 students and 22 staff members. Students enter the university after having graduated from teacher training high schools which focus on English. In spite of this, their level of English is still at an intermediate level in the first two years of English. The expectation is that all graduates of the department will become English teachers and that their English will improve during the four-year B.A. program.
